In a unique ‘on set’ experience, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar is set to hit St Mary’s Church Bridgwater this Easter, the audience will be wowed by powerful rock numbers, beautiful ballads and sensationally written musical theatre pieces as they are transported through the life and death of the last week of Jesus Christ.
Told through the eyes of Judas Iscariot, played by Ben Filler, this Rock Opera is a dramatic masterpiece only made better by its 13th Century setting.
The audience sit inside the set as the musical is performed in the round with the audience.
Watchers will be close enough to look into the eyes of Judas as he wrestles with betraying Christ, they will be able to experience the full force of the execution of Jesus in full technicolour provided by Andrew Scammell and Martin Wasley. They will hear, close up, the anguish of Mary Magdalene played by Jess Godfrey in the iconic song ‘I don’t know how to love him’ made famous by Sarah Brightman, with sound from Nick Bell.
They will experience the emotional rollercoaster that Jesus felt, played by Simon Thomas-Boddy, as he was betrayed by those he held most dear and sent to his death in a sacrifice that would echo to this very day.
This is a unique show to experience and it is made even more unique because it is set at Easter, the time of Jesus’ death in St Mary’s Church, Bridgwater where it is literally on set, March 7th and 8th at 7.30pm
