Eighteen people have been injured after part of a roof collapsed onto a crowd enjoying the half-term break at a Pontins holiday park in Somerset.
Emergency services were called at around 6.30pm to Pontins Brean Sands Holiday Park, this evening (20th February 2019).
“40 metres of ducting and ceiling sections had collapsed.”
The incident happened at around 6.20pm, where there were children’s entertainment going on, and adults were getting ready to play bingo.
A statement from Avon and Somerset Police said,
“Shortly before 6.30pm this evening we were called to Brean Sands Holiday Park following reports a ceiling had collapsed inside a building.
“A number of people suffered minor injuries in the incident but thankfully no one was seriously hurt.
“The Health and Safety Executive have been informed.”
Devon and Somerset Fire & Rescue Service said in a statement,
“The incident involved the collapse of approximately 40 metres of structural ducting and ceiling sections, exposing live damaged electrics and making the scene unstable.
“Fire crews used eight high pressure airbags and small tools to establish that no persons were trapped beneath the collapse.”
